Blackjack House Rules
- You must be at least 21 years old to play.
- Wagering limits are posted at each table.
- Wagers must consist of North Star Mohican Casino Resort chips. No currency or tokens are accepted. Currency may be exchanged for chips at any blackjack table.
- A maximum of seven hands per table will be dealt to players.
- Management may limit the number of non-players in proximity to the blackjack tables at any time during the play of blackjack.
- Management may limit the number of hands a player may receive.
- Player may only play one table at a time. If a player is not present when the cards are dealt, player will not receive a hand.
Blackjack
Blackjack pays 3 to 2. Blackjack is the combination of an ace and ten value dealt as initial two cards to player or dealer. Blackjack is not the combination of an ace and ten value cards after splitting a pair of aces or tens. Blackjack beats any hand drawn to a total of 21. Player with blackjack may take even money when dealer has an ace showing. If player has blackjack, and dealer with a ten showing turns over an ace, player’s hand will be a push.
Push
The circumstance in which a player and dealer have the point total of twenty-one or less, resulting in a tie and cancellation of the player’s wager; except that a push is not the circumstance in which both a player and the dealer have 21 but only one of these persons has a blackjack.
Doubling Down
Player may double down for equal or less than original wager, but the amount must be at least equal to the minimum table wagering limit. Player may double down on any two cards, except blackjack and split aces, and will receive one additional card. Player may double down after splitting.
Splitting
Player may split any pair or two ten value cards up to three times for a total of four hands for wager equal to original wager. Each ace will receive one additional card.
Insurance
Insurance pays 2 to 1. Insurance is available when the dealer has an ace showing. Player may insure drawn hand for half of their wager or less. Even money is available if player has blackjack.
- Surrender is not allowed.
- Dealer draws on soft 17.
- Dealer will draw no additional cards, regardless of the point, if the dealer’s hand will not affect the outcome of the round of play.
- Player should not rely on any point counts announced by the dealer.
- Player must double the minimum table wagering limit when playing two hands and must have permission from the pit boss or floor supervisor to play more than two hands.
- Player may only play one table at a time. If player is not present when cards are dealt, player will not receive a hand.
- There are no “pay the board” hands. If there is a question about the outcome of a hand, a pit boss or floor supervisor may be called to the table to resolve the situation.
- Loud, abusive, obscene or belligerent behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone exhibiting these behaviors will be escorted out of the casino.
- No person who is visibly intoxicated shall be permitted to play blackjack.
- Anyone who breaks these rules after being warned will not be allowed to play table games. Anyone caught cheating will immediately be escorted out of the casino and may face criminal prosecution.
- All disputes will follow the posted dispute policy.
- North Star Mohican casino reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
Double Pitch Rules
All regular blackjack rules apply in addition to the following;
Players must handle their cards with one hand only. To draw additional cards, scratch cards lightly on the table. To indicate completion of a hand, tuck cards under the chips.
If two hands are played, the first hand must be completed before moving on to the second hand, unless dealer has an ace showing.
Aces may only be split once. Each ace will receive one additional card.
Player’s cards must be in plain sight over the table at all times.
Players may be required to speak English only during the round of play.
HOW TO PLAY BLACKJACK
Blackjack at North Star is played with two or five decks of cards. In double deck games the dealer holds the cards and deals them out. In multi-deck games the cards are dealt out of a tray like box that is called a shoe.
In hand held games the cards are dealt face down and the player is allowed to pick up his cards. In a shoe game the cards are dealt face up to the player and you are not allowed to touch your cards. The basic play for either game is the same. This is a simple explanation of playing blackjack. Further clarifications can be found in our house rules.
Objective
The objective of the game is to beat the dealer. If your cards total higher than the dealer's cards without going over 21 you win. If your hand or the dealer's hand goes over 21 you "Bust." If you bust you automatically lose. If the dealer busts and you do not, you win. The player must act first. If the player busts he loses regardless if the dealer busts or not.
Card Values
The suits of the cards have no affect on the game. Cards 2 - 10 are counted at face value without regards to their suit. All face cards have a value of ten. An ace can count as either one or eleven.
Playing the Game
The player puts his bet in the betting star in front of his space. Only chips put in the betting circle count as your bet. After all bets are made the play begins. Each player is dealt two cards face up. The dealer receives one card face up and one card face down known as the hole card. After the cards are dealt the dealer will ask each player in turn to make their decision. The player to the left of the dealer acts first. You will use hand signal to make your decisions known. This keeps the game moving and it also helps insure there are no verbal misunderstandings. Remember that in a game dealt from a shoe you are not allowed to touch the cards.
Blackjack
If you or the dealer is dealt an Ace and a ten-value card you have 21 known as a blackjack. If you get a blackjack you will be paid 3 to 2 for your bet providing the dealer does not get one at the same time. If you and the dealer have blackjack it is a push. If only the dealer has blackjack all players will lose.
Hitting
To take a hit means that you want to draw another card. To signal the dealer for a hit you will tap the table in front of you. If you wish another card after the first you would motion in the same manner.
Standing
Once you are satisfied with either your first two cards or after hitting, you signal the dealer that you wish to stand. This is done by waving your hand over the top of your cards.
Doubling Down
When you double down you are allowed to double your bet after receiving your fist two cards. You then receive one card only on your hand. North Star will allow you to double down on any two cards, except Blackjack and split Aces. To signal that you are doubling down you will place an additional bet next to your original bet. North Star will let you double down for less than your original bet providing it meets the table minimum.
Splitting
If you are dealt a pair (two cards of the same rank) you can split these into two separate hands. You must make an additional bet equal to your starting bet. You signal the dealer that you are splitting by placing your second bet next to your first bet in the betting circle. Do not put this bet on top of the original bet. Do not separate the cards. The dealer will do this for you. You will now play each hand one at a time. The dealer will give you a second card to go with the first split card. You will then decide to hit or stand. After you play out this hand you will move on to the next split card and the process will be repeated. North Star will allow you to double down on your first two cards after splitting, except for split Aces.
Insurance
If the dealer's face up card is an ace, you may take "insurance," which essentially is a bet that the dealer has a 10-value card down to complete a blackjack. Insurance, which may be taken for half the original bet, pays 2-1 if the dealer has blackjack. The net effect is that if you win the insurance bet and lose the hand, you come out even. For example, the player has 18 with a $10 bet down. The dealer has an ace up. The player takes a $5 insurance bet. If the dealer has blackjack, the player loses the $10 bet on the hand but wins $10 with the 2-1 payoff on the $5 insurance bet.
